According to the Program of the research, we examined physical properties of optical glasses based on tellurium. In particular, we considered the following glass compounds: germanium-selenium-tellurium (Ge-Se-Te), germanium-silicon-sulfur-tellurium (Ge-Se-S-Te), germanium-silicon-tellurium (Ge-Si-Te) and silicon-tellurium (Si-Te). We found that similarly to tellurium, these glass alloys demonstrate rather good acousto-optic diffraction efficiency. The alloys materials are transparent in the wide range of optical wavelengths staring from the near infrared region to the long infrared spectral bandwidths. The investigation proved that acousto-optic figure of merit in the glasses is only a few times lower as compared to the single crystal tellurium. On the other hand, the glasses demonstrated low sensitivity to polarization of light. Finally, the glasses on base of tellurium are much cheaper resulting in commercially attractive prices of acousto-optic instruments. Therefore, in the frames of the project, we carried out a direct experimental characterization of the new glasses. We measured optic, acoustic and photoelastic properties of the tellurium-based compounds recommended for applications in acousto-optic devices.
