Assessment of river channel dynamics has important implication for prediction of rates of bank erosion and evaluation of sediment supply to the Ocean, which is important for the Arctic regions. Frozen banks of river channels, alternation of frozen and thawed sediment in the channel bed, seasonal changes in water temperatures and periglacial processes influence mechanisms and rates of river channels dynamics in the Arctic. It is very important to predict channel dynamics in conditions of changing climate and increasing human impact, but the lack of long term field observations in Arctic regions makes it difficult. We used retrospective analysis of aerial photography and satellite imagery and field observations to evaluate mechanisms and rates of bank erosion on the rivers of different orders and cannel morphology. Comparison of data on channel dynamics, water temperatures and permafrost characteristics under the channels of different orders can be used for the forecast of river channel dynamics.
