Color banding and placing of satellite transmitters on cranes in Muraviovka area in late 1980’s – early 1990's allowed us to determine locations of wintering sites of cranes that breed there and receive initial support to creation of Muraviovka Park (the Park). Ongoing since 2011 banding and tracking program for Passerine birds led by European ornithologists in collaboration with the Park provided further information on migratory routes, wintering grounds, and habitat fidelity of over 200 species of birds as well as revealed rapid decline of certain species that were abundant in near past. This program had also presented new learning opportunities to local stakeholders and general public and expanded circle of the Park’s supporters and volunteers.
