Hydrogenated C9 type hydrocarbon resins produced by a novel technology developed at A.V. Topchiev Institute of Petroleum Synthesis were used as tackifiers in preparation of pressure-sensitive and hot melt adhesives based and styrene – butadiene – styrene and ethylene – vinyl acetate copolymers. Additives such as naphthenic oil and polyethylene wax were applied to tailor the rheological properties of the developed formulations. The compatibility of the components of the compositions was investigated by laser interferometry. As a result, phase-state diagrams of the mixtures were obtained. The adhesive and rheological characteristics of the compositions were measured and a correlation between viscoelasticity of the blends and adhesion strength of their bonds with steel substrate was found. The obtained data were used to evaluate the potential of novel hydrocarbon resins with those available at the market.
