Increase of cytosolic calcium concentration is regarded to be one of the most important events that take place during platelet activation. Due to small size of the regular platelet, spatial differences of calcium concentration are almost indistinguishable. However, some healthy donors and patients with MYH9-associated thrombocytopenia possess platelets with size that are up to four times bigger in diameter than regular ones. It provides an opportunity to look for calcium waves in such cells.
